A woman stunned police and family members by throwing her two daughters outside the window of her 13th floor office before she took her own life.
Building where the incident happened
A woman has taken the lives of her two daughters by throwing them out of the 13th floor of her office window before jumping to her death, Police in Spain are quoted as saying.
The children, aged nearly one and 11, died after falling from the building in Gerona just before 8pm last night. However, a man who witnessed the incident failed as he tried to save the older daughter of the woman.
Police later recovered the body of 42-year-old mum, named locally as Mireia Pujadas Polo, on top of an old water deposit beside the building. No signs of violence were found at the scene and police have ruled out the idea the mum and her daughters jumped at the same time because they were found in different spots.
Her husband Marti and their son, who was with his grandparents when the incident occurred and is thought to be aged around four, are receiving counselling. Gerona mayor Carles Puigdemont said this about the sad incident: “It’s a terrible tragedy. We’re beside ourselves with grief.”
An investigation led by the Mossos d’Esquadra regional police force is underway. A Mossos d’Esquadra spokesman said: “We can confirm the deaths of three people. We are investigating.”
Sources close to the probe, cited in several Spanish newspapers, said investigators were focusing on the theory the youngsters were thrown to their deaths by their mum before she jumped from a window of the office.
